Municipal Affairs released an update to the construction codes for Alberta based on the 2020 National Building, Fire, and Energy Code published by the National Research Council in March 2022.
Following the recommendations of BILD Alberta, Tier 1 will be adopted as the minimum province-wide standard for building energy efficiency for housing and small buildings. The updated Alberta Building Code will come into force in 2024, and there currently needs to be a scheduled timeline for progressing up the Tiered Energy Codes.
BILD Alberta plans to create educational videos to prepare members for the upcoming changes. The videos will focus on new code requirements and the barriers and solutions members may experience. Stay tuned for educational resources.
