Eligibility Requirements

Membership

Only CHBA-ER members in good standing throughout the competition are eligible to enter. A member in good standing is considered to be one with no outstanding invoices with the CHBA – ER and follows the Code of Ethics. Those members not in good standing may be eliminated from the competition.

Images

Do not submit images that have borders, frames, logos, or watermarks. Detached garages are not to be included in any photos. Artists renderings are not permitted.

Photos have an impact on how judges see your entry and influence your final score. Photos should be of professional quality. Image orientation can be horizontal or vertical. No major alterations to the photos (interior or exterior) are permitted. Colour correction is acceptable. Exceptions: Sales Centres may be covered up with a standard garage door only. Dirt can be covered with grass (no landscaping). Digitally staged images will only be accepted if original untouched images of the space or area are emailed directly to info@chbaedmonton.ca before the deadline, October 27, 2023 at Noon.

Eligibility Period:

New Home Awards, and Renovation Awards:

The home must have been completed during the time frame of October 1, 2022 to September 30, 2023.

Sales Person/Team of the Year Awards:

Must be with the member company during the time frame of October 1, 2022 to September 30, 2023.

Sales Volume Awards:

All sales must be unconditionally approved from October 1, 2022 to September 30, 2023.

Advertising Awards:

Marketing must have been active during the time frame of October 1, 2022 to September 30, 2023.

Sales Center Awards:

Open to the public during the time frame of October 1, 2022 to September 30, 2023.

Best New Community Award:

The first Show Home Parade must have opened within 24 months of September 30, 2022. Community must have lots/homes currently for sale from October 1, 2022 to September 30, 2023.

Best Community Award:

A new phase must have been released/constructed during the time frame of October 1, 2022 to September 30, 2023. Community must have lots/homes currently for sale from October 1, 2022 to September 30, 2023.

Original Home Entries:

Any entries made to the CHBA-ER Awards of Excellence in Housing that have previously been entered in the competition are not eligible. However, an entry using the same floor plan can be submitted again from a different home with a different address.

Entering Online:

Each entry must be made by creating an individual online entry. The Realtor Awards require an entry to be submitted by the REALTORS® Association of Edmonton.

Deadline for online submissions is October 26, 2023, at 11:59 p.m.

Location:

Projects entered in the CHBA-ER Awards of Excellence in Housing competition must be located in the Edmonton Region.

Number of Allowed Entries:

All Single Family Awards, Multi-Family Awards, Renovation Awards, Sales People of the Year (CS1, CS2 and CS3 – NOT including GS1), Development Awards (NOT including DV2), Advertising Awards: Four (4) submissions in these categories.

  • DV2 Best New Community: Three (3) submissions in this category.
  • Sales Centre Awards: Two (2) submissions in these categories.
  • Environmental Awards: One (1); can apply for both Single Family Home Builder and Multi-Family Home Builder categories.
  • General Member of the Year – Builders’ Choice Awards: members may enter one company division per Builders’ Choice Award category.
  • LS1 Industry Leadership Award: One (1) submission in this category.

Renovators:

When taking “before” and “after” pictures of a renovation, shoot from the same location or angle – this helps the judges understand the “transformation”.

Horizontal Color Photos:

A minimum of 2000 pixels in width and a height of 1000 pixels at 72 DPI or higher. Preferred digital formats: JPEG, PDF or PNG.
Vertical Color Photos:
A minimum of 2000 pixels in width and a height of 3000 pixels at 72DPI or higher. Preferred digital formats: JPEG, PDF or PNG.

The size upload limit is 5MB. Larger files cannot be uploaded.

Authorization:

Entries must be authorized by the home builder, renovator or developer member, including any entry submitted on their behalf by an authorized third party.

Price

Price is to be rounded up to the nearest dollar. All builders must submit the price based on the current market price at the time of submission or total retail sale price at the time of sale. List the actual selling or advertised price (including upgrades) of the unit submitted.

Lottery homes, staff purchases, and builder owner homes must submit the selling price as if the home/unit were sold to the public.

Price Specification for Single Family:

Include: Base model price, all interior/exterior upgrades, all change orders, extras or additions, appliances and permanent fixtures, window coverings, basement development (optional)
Exclude: Land and GST, landscaping, detached garage, garage (Sales Centre) finishing, and furnishings.

Price Specification for Infill:

Include: Contract price, all change orders, extras or additions, appliances and permanent fixtures, basement development (optional)
Exclude: Land and GST, landscaping, detached garage, garage finishing, and furnishings.

Price Specifications for Multi-Family Categories:

Include: Price of land without GST. Include all interior upgrades, appliances and permanent fixtures, window coverings, basement development (optional). Use the current market price of the unit or total retail sale price at the time of sale, without GST.
Excludes: Landscaping, detached garage, garage (sales Centre) finishing, and furnishings.

Price Specifications for Renovation Categories:

Include: An estimate of the dollar value of any materials the homeowner self-supplied (e.g. kitchen appliances)

Basement:

It is optional to include the basement development in single family, infill and multi-family categories. If the submission includes the basement, the sale price must reflect the basement development and it must be submitted in the appropriate price category. You must also include the basement in the square footage, photos and floor plan. If the basement is not included in the submission, the sale price must reflect the price less the basement development and it must be submitted in the appropriate price category, and you cannot include the basement in comments, square footage, photos or floor plan.

Floor Plans and Site Plans:

Floor plans and site plans must be uploaded in a PDF format no larger than 5MB. Upload simple plans – the same kind you would provide to clients on your website. Do not include elevations or renderings. All logos should be removed from documents. If your plans are on more than one page, combine them into a single PDF document and upload all together.

Homeowner Waiver Form:

The Homeowner Waiver Form must be completed and signed by the homeowner for all owner occupied home entered in the competition. Showhomes or homes in the builders’ possession are not required to complete this form.
