Dave is a lifelong resident of Spruce Grove and was elected to Council in 2017. He is an active community volunteer, coach, local educator, and has certainly learned a lot in his first four years on Council! Dave is always interested in a conversation, and is open to hearing from anyone who is invested our community. 

How will you support the City of Spruce Grove's competitive advantage and market affordable housing? How do you see fees, levies, taxes and municipal cost control playing a role in housing affordability? Note: CHBA-ER refers to “market affordable housing” as housing that is market priced and meets the general requirements of affordability based on household income. Market affordable housing may include market rental housing and market home ownership.

It is our responsibility as a City to work with developers and home builders to provide a diversity of affordable housing options for our residents. I have heard from both those who have moved out here because it is more affordable, and those who struggle to find appropriate housing. This tells me we in many ways are on the right track, but must continue to be open to working with developers and home builders to meet the needs that exist now and into the future. Fees, levies, taxes and municipal cost control are part of this equation, and we need to continually evaluate where we are at and how we can find the appropriate balance.

What steps do you believe are necessary to reduce red tape and support business investment in the residential construction industry?

We must have a third party review of our processes and timelines to better understand how we can both meet the legislated requirements and be facilitators for growth in both business development and residential construction. I am a member of our Economic Development Advisory Committee and chaired the sub-committee on red tape reduction. This committee included members from our community who shared tremendous wisdom and insight into what we can do to be a more business friendly and efficient organization. I'm looking forward to seeing us move forward in this area.

Do you support welcoming a diversity of housing types throughout Spruce Grove?

We have worked hard over the past four years to include a variety of housing types in Spruce Grove, and I know this is important for our community as we continue to grow.
