Renovator Committee and volunteers come together to complete the Renovation Project for Catholic Social Services
On Wednesday, October 26, 2022, CHBA-ER volunteers revealed the final product of the October Renovation Month Project to the team at Catholic Social Services.
The project included renovating the basement area of a supportive/transitional house for young mothers who may be escaping domestic violence, experiencing houselessness or are refugees. The completed project brings functionality to the space by turning the basement into an area that is safe, warm and welcoming for new moms and children. The project involved expanding a bedroom, building frost walls throughout to provide warmth, building new walls to define different areas including the laundry space, storage room, staff office, nursing room and playroom, as well as refinishing ceilings, lighting, walls and floors of the main spaces, and providing furnishings throughout.
Catholic Social Services has provided care to women at risk of intimate partner violence and houselessness. They offer a safe place for women leaving abusive relationships, homeless youth rebuilding their lives, and people with disabilities to live life to its fullest.
Thank you to the Renovator Committee for organizing and leading the way and all our members and volunteers who participated. Whether it was a donation of supplies, labour, cash, or time, the generosity of all those involved is greatly appreciated.
