The CHBA-ER will be holding elections for open positions on the Board of Directors (Board) at the Annual General Meeting to be held November 1, 2017. Nominations are now open and will be accepted until Saturday, September 30, 2017.

There are four (4) open Board positions, of which one must be a Builder member. Board positions are two-year terms. The Associations' Bylaws define Builder Members as "a person, firm, or corporation that demonstrates, to the satisfaction of the Board, sufficient experiences as a single-family home builder, a multi-family home builder, or a home renovator and, for home builders, shows proof of registration with an approved third party warranty program."

Slate of Nominees

  • Real LaFrance, Brookfield Residential

Over his decade at Brookfield Residential, Real has demonstrated drive and commitment to the home building industry by achieving progressively responsible positions. While hired as a Journeyman Carpenter on site, Real worked up to Site Manager before shifting to Associate Construction Manager at the Edmonton office and progressing to General Manager for Single Family Homes.

As General Manager, Real is accountable for the formulation and execution of the Business Plan, the broader Brookfield Residential strategic plan and general management of the business unit. He ensures delivery of projects through effective management of operational, financial, sales and marketing, and human resources.

Currently Real is a member of the CHBA Government Relations and Women in Residential Construction committees, the latter of which encourages diversity and support for women in construction. Prior to these he served on the Technical Advisory Committee for six years, serving some of them as Chair. He has worked on joint sub-committees with the City of Edmonton looking at Affordable Housing and Addressing Fiscal Impacts of Greenfield Growth.

Leading a team of 65 Real enjoys mentoring and training those coming up through the construction teams to be results-driven and adaptable in this fast-paced, innovative industry.  

Real is a Red Seal journeyman carpenter, and he is working towards a Management Development Certificate through the University of Alberta. 


  • Dhruv Gupta, Akash Homes 

Dhruv Gupta is the Vice-President of Akash Homes. With Akash, Dhruv is responsible for all strategic operations of the organization. His responsibilities include construction, finance, human resources, legal, and sales and marketing. Prior to joining Akash, Dhruv practiced commercial and residential real estate law with both a large national law firm and an Alberta-based real estate law boutique. Dhruv’s unique professional and educational background gives him a strong understanding of the myriad of issues that face the residential construction industry whether it be from the perspective of builders, trades, or suppliers.

Dhruv has been involved with the CHBA-ER by serving on both the Government Relations and Economic committees as well as the Strathcona County Working Group. Dhruv also currently is a member of the City of Edmonton’s Housing Innovation Lab Committee. Lastly, Dhruv participates in governance with various local charities.

Dhruv earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Economics in 2010 and a Juris Doctorate (Bachelors of Law) in 2013, both from the University of Alberta. Dhruv is currently completing his Master Home Builders Designation with the Professional Home Builders Institute and hopes to be finished his designation in early 2018.
