Red Alert: National Energy Code for Buildings

National Energy Code for Buildings – THIRD RED ALERT

The Public Consultation is now underway. You can review the proposed changes directly on the Canadian Code Centre website. Click here to link to the public review documents.

I wrote to you in July about the new energy code for large buildings and how it might affect your business. To view that memo click here.

The CHBA challenged the proposed new requirements where justification was inadequate. As a result, the new requirements are more practical than they would otherwise have been. However, the CHBA remains very concerned that they are still too complicated and costly.

To make further inroads, builders need to respond to the current public consultation directly.

I wrote again in September to provide you with Part 1 of CHBA’s Roadmap on how to assess the proposed requirements. It highlighted issues where high rise builders should take stock of their current practices compared to the proposed requirements with respect to building envelopes and lighting. This letter provides you with Part 2 of the CHBA Roadmap. It deals with the proposed requirements for HVAC and service water heating (SWH). To download Part 2 of the Roadmap click here.
