Durabuilt Dudes raise over $15,000 for Movember
Edmonton, AB- 4 weeks ago, 52 members of the Durabuilt Dudes donated the real-estate above their upper lips in the name of Men’s Health and Prostate Cancer Awareness. It resulted in over $15,000.00 raised and the team ranked 120th out of the 30,000 teams participating nationally.
Based in Edmonton, the employees of Durabuilt Windows & Doors, known as the Durabuilt Dudes were not only busy in the office and plant manufacturing windows and doors but were also proudly growing their moustaches in every shape and design imaginable.
“We discussed participating for a couple of years, but we really wanted to make an impact- and for our first year we’re very happy with what we have accomplished,” says Vice President, Harry Sunner. “We had 52 participants and exceeded our initial fundraising goal substantially. The response from all of our staff, building partners, dealers and suppliers has been exceptional!”
The Durabuilt Dudes promoted the fundraiser wherever they went, including most recently a CHBA Edmonton dinner, where the support and response was overwhelming to say the least. For a majority of the Durabuilt Dudes, this was the first time they spawned a moustache - so naturally, playful comments and suggestions on grooming tips could be heard throughout the Durabuilt offices and plant.
And for some, it was the removal of a lifelong “friend” that was more traumatizing. “I’ve had a moustache for over 30 years,” jokes Donn Sorsdahl, member of Durabuilt’s sales team. “I was a little nervous shaving it off, but turns out my wife likes it! So come December 1st, it’s coming back off!”
“We had a Durabuilt Dudes wall in both of the lunch rooms with all the men’s photos displayed for everyone to view and vote for,” explains President, Joe Sunner. “Each week a new photo was added to the wall. The staff would pay one dollar per vote in an effort to choose the week’s best MO, with those funds also going toward the goal. There were some good ones and some good tries,” Sunner laughs. “I’m proud of our team. This is the first moustache I’ve ever grown and I will definitely be growing one again next year. The Durabuilt Team has been touched directly and indirectly by the effects of cancer and this year’s inaugural MOvember campaign not only raised much needed funds, but it also helped build camaraderie throughout the company, reinforcing our corporate culture and commitment to the community – we’re making a difference, one moustache at a time.”
